About the project

In celebration of
Black History Month,
the Nyack NAACP has sponsored
Poetry Walk from Feb.12-28 called:
History Has Its Eyes On Us
which will wrap
downtown Nyack
in the lines of
Amanda Gorman’s
inspiring Inauguration poem,
The Hill We Climb.

Starting at the gazebo in
Hezekiah Easter Park on the corner of
Main Street and Rosa Parks Way
with:

“When day comes,
we ask ourselves,
where can we find light
in this never-ending shade?”

and ending at the
Rockland County Pride Center,
with:

“For there is always light,
if only we’re
brave enough to see it.
If only we’re
brave enough to be it.”

the lines of The Hill We Climb
will be divided and printed
as posters and banners
to be displayed on
windows, fences, doors and walls.

Visitors will be invited to explore
Downtown Nyack
guided by the lines of the poem.
Each location will have a
QR code which leads to:

•A map of the Poetry Route
•List of locations
•Video of Amanda Gorman
reciting her poem
•Audio of the poem
accompanied by music

Visitors will also be invited to
join the Nyack NAACP as new
or continuing members
and take pictures and videos
of themselves exploring
the Poetry Walk,
and reciting the poem
to post to Instagram,
Facebook and Twitter
